Basic rights for the future

Human dignity, equality and freedom: the Basic Law has been making great promises for 75 years. But where are they being kept in the everyday lives of young people? How do laws and fundamental rights secure the future of coming generations? And what does a constitution need to be fit for the future?

Young people discussed this open-air at the Young Constitutional Talks on Saturday, August 10, 2024, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the Karlsruhe market square with personalities from the judiciary, culture and media. They were available to answer questions, but also listened to what moves young people about the future, democracy, the rule of law and the Basic Law. The panel included Beate Bube, President of the Baden-Württemberg State Office for the Protection of the Constitution, Jens Rommel, Attorney General at the Federal Court of Justice, Dr. Christiane Schmaltz, Judge at the Federal Court of Justice, Caren Denner, Head of the Karlsruhe Police Headquarters, Dr. Cord Brügmann, Director of the Forum Recht Foundation and Dr. Frank Bräutigam, fully qualified lawyer and Head of the ARD Legal Department. The Young Constitutional Talks were moderated by Tobias Zapp from SWR and admission was free.

In addition to the discussions on the stage dm-drogerie markt invited visitors from 11:00 to 19:00 to the "Lust an Zukunft" experience day with information stands and hands-on activities on the topics of democracy, law, freedom and the German constitution.
