If you think of Heinz Rühmann's famous children's song when you hear La-Li-Lu, you're not far wrong. The new SWR Big Band project does indeed focus on children's songs and lullabies from Sweden and Germany. And of course three outstanding soloists from the Swedish/European jazz scene.
The musical mastermind is saxophonist Magnus Lindgren. As artist in residence, he is very familiar with the SWR Big Band and is also a long-time companion of trombonist Nils Landgren and pianist Jan Lundgren. Magnus arranges traditional children's songs and lullabies into a tailor-made program for the soloists and the band. The protagonists are thus writing a new chapter in the big book of big band history. Guaranteed to be anything but soporific, the program ranges from heartfelt ballads to exciting Swedish funk, with a little tongue-in-cheek thrown in for good measure - perfectly served up by the enthusiastic SWR Big Band.
