Ballet evening with choreography by Raimondo Rebeck, Houston Thomas, and Jiří Kylián
"Statements" celebrates the expressive power of dance through three choreographic works. For the first time, the Karlsruhe State Ballet is presenting a piece by the legendary choreographer Jiří Kylián: His iconic work *Petite Mort* is combined with *Blind Dreams* by Raimondo Rebeck and the exclusive new creation *Echoes in the Dark* by Houston Thomas for the Karlsruhe State Ballet.
In the Karlsruhe adaptation of *Blind Dreams*, Raimondo Rebeck explores visual impairment. In this world of darkness, every movement crystallizes into a subtle touch, opening the door to a wondrous cosmos of emotions and encounters. Houston Thomas, former ballet soloist at the Semperoper Dresden, reinterprets the classical ballet vocabulary, lending it contemporary relevance and fresh expressiveness in *Echoes in the Dark*. Finally, with poetic depth and beauty, the great choreographer Jiří Kylián transforms two Mozart piano concertos into *Petite Mort*, a reflection on the tension between ecstasy and transience, in which death—whether “Petite” or “Grande”—is our constant companion.
