but with "Where Owls Know My Name" from 2018, they left all the labels attributed to them behind them. When they returned in 2021 with 'The Work', they pushed further into new territory, once again surpassing any expectations fans had of them. And now, with a new album on the horizon in 2025, following a string of singles released over the last year and a half, the band have once again pushed the boundaries of their willingness to go in search of new sonic territory.
The band spent 2021 and 2022 going full out with a hectic touring schedule that included headlining tours in the U.S. and Europe, a jaunt on the European festival circuit, and two tours in support of The Black Dahlia Murder and The Contortionist in North America. But by the time the latter tour was over, they were missing a band member; for personal reasons, founding vocalist Jake Dieffenbach and the band went their separate ways.
In March 2023, RIVERS OF NIHIL completed a recording session that saw the now four-piece band produce a significant amount of new music, with their former bassist/background vocalist Adam Biggs as the new lead vocalist/bassist. These sessions also marked the first recorded appearances of new guitarist Andy Thomas (Black Crown Initiate), whose vocals also feature prominently in the music, as a full-time member of RIVERS OF NIHIL. The new singles, released throughout 2023 and 2024, were the first to showcase the band's new line-up in full collaboration, demonstrating that while this is a bold new sound with plenty of potential, it also carries the band's classic energy. The band recently completed the recording and mastering of their fifth album, due for release in 2025. The album will include two previously released songs - "The Sub-Orbital Blues" (2023) and "Criminals" (2024) - as well as eight new tracks. In the meantime, RIVERS OF NIHIL have revamped their catalog, responded to persistent fan requests to release instrumental versions of "Where Owls Know My Name" and "The Work", and reissued a remixed and remastered version of their 2010 debut EP "Hierarchy" (November 8, 2024 via Metal Blade).
