Lawyer Tessa believes unwaveringly in law and justice. Growing up in poverty, she did not enjoy the same privileges as many of her colleagues. Nevertheless, she is now one of the best criminal defense attorneys in her law firm, feared in court and known for mercilessly leading prosecution witnesses astray. Her specialty: defending men accused of sexual assault. Convinced of the principle of presumption of innocence, Tessa has no difficulty reconciling this with her conscience. Then one day she herself is raped. And now she experiences the mechanisms of the legal system from a different perspective.
Suzie Miller has incorporated her own experiences as a lawyer into the monologue, which premiered in Sydney in 2019. Prima Facie is currently one of the most frequently performed plays on German-speaking stages. At the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, ensemble member Rebecca Seidel can be seen in the role of Tessa.
