Beneath the city of Geneva, tiny particles are being smashed together to study the conditions of the Big Bang. Critics fear this could create a black hole. The world’s top scientists are involved in humanity’s most ambitious experiment. Among them is Alice from England, who is following in the footsteps of her proud mother, Karen. Her simple-minded sister Jenny, on the other hand, can’t possibly live up to their mother’s expectations. While Alice works at the particle accelerator, Jenny is afraid of harming her baby with ultrasounds and vaccinations.
Alice’s personal life, however, is far from orderly. Her son Luke suffers from the fact that his father disappeared without a trace one day. Besides, Luke hates Geneva and wants to go back to England. Because he hacks into the parent portal, he is suspended from school. And so the chaos takes its course.
Anna Stiepani directs at the Badisches Staatstheater for the first time, following productions at the Burgtheater in Vienna, the Schauspielhaus in Zurich, and the Staatstheater in Nuremberg. Written by British playwright and screenwriter Lucy Kirkwood, the play adopts the style of a television series to focus on those who are excluded from the social order. The plot revolves around CERN, the famous international research facility, for which work is also being conducted at the Institute for Experimental Particle Physics at KIT.
