Karlsruhe Master Concerts 2024/2025 - 2nd Master Concert - Gigantic Masterpieces
The three variation masterpieces, which contributed to the great breakthrough at the first performances during the lifetime of these geniuses, are triggered by a great fascination.
It is fascinating how even the simplest melodies can achieve such monumental inspiration and climax. In his Beethoven Variations, the "chord worker", as Reger calls himself, transforms an innocently singing bagatelle by Beethoven into a cosmos of late Romantic expressive worlds. In his Paganini Rhapsody, Rachmaninov changes the theme of the famous 24th Caprice and occasionally uses a tonal language that leads straight to the heart. The famous pianist Anna Vinnitskaya appears as soloist with her innovative approach. Elgar's most popular work is his Enigma Variations. Here he creates musical variations based on a theme that represents the "loneliness of the creative artist", the origins of which are still unknown today.
