Black Forest North Rim Trail
Medium
The 56-kilometre trail leaves the transmitter town of Mühlacker via the ruins of Löffelstelz and Dürrmenz, reaches the Eppingen line on the heights and follows this historic line for the rest of the route. Via the Gaisberg, Öschelbronn, the Waldschanze with Chataque, the route leads into the Enz valley. From Pforzheim-Eutingen, it reaches the northern heights of Pforzheim with Wartberg, Hachelturm and Wallberg, offering views over the city. Above Dietlingen and Ellmendingen, the hiker has vineyards and countryside all the way to the heights of the Black Forest at their feet. Downhill to Ellmendingen, the route then crosses the Pfinzgraben and reaches Langensteinbach via Weiler, where it is worth making a detour to St. Barbara's Chapel. A fairly open landscape with views of the northern Black Forest, fields and orchards awaits the hiker once they have left Langensteinbach behind them. The route passes under the highway, Stupferich remains on the left and the Turmberg is reached after passing the Thomashof and Rittnerthof farms. From here, on a clear day, there is a fantastic view over Karlsruhe and the Rhine plain as far as the Palatinate Forest and the Vosges mountains. At its foot lies Durlach, which can be reached via steps or more comfortably with the Turmbergbahn.
