The TramTrain System – The Karlsruhe Model

The so-called ‘Karlsruhe model’ has made the city of Karlsruhe renowned in and beyond professional circles throughout the world.

It was in the Karlsruhe region that urban trams first ran on railway lines, using two different electrical systems and two different operating regulations. It was here that two ostensibly incompatible systems were first successfully connected and, despite all the technical and legal reservations, a successful model that has gained worldwide recognition was created.

Programme

A technical lecture on the Karlsruhe model with a Q & A session, followed by a tram ride (optional).
