The XXL fan-shaped street

Ritterstraße is the longest fan-shaped street in the city and runs from the southern edge of the castle to Mathystraße.

It has borne its historical name since 1820 - it was named after the popular "Zum Ritter" inn at the time. The street runs between the Karlsruhe Natural History Museum and the Baden State Library as well as between Friedrichsplatz and St. Stephan's Church Square. The connection between Ritterstraße and Friedrichsplatz makes it perfect for sunbathing on a park bench followed by a stroll through the city. From glasses to skateboards and all sorts of things from regional manufacturers to delicious baked goods, Fächerstraße XXL has everything your heart desires.

Kirchplatz St. Stephan frames the St. Stephan Catholic church and is situated centrally, directly opposite Baden’s State Library and the well-known Friedrichsplatz. The church square is the perfect meeting point for families with children or for a theatre date.

Herrenstraße spans from the southern edge of the Karlsruhe Palace to Karlstor on Karlstraße. You can find an A–Z of shops among cultural heritage sites and court buildings, as well as the Federal Court of Justice. You can find everything from A-line skirts to zebra-print couch cushions at the shops along Herrenstraße, as well as everything a well-organised jewellery box, household or wardrobe could ever need.
