Ritterstraße

The XXL fan-shaped street

Ritterstraße is the longest fan-shaped street in the city and runs from the southern edge of the Palace, to Mathysstraße. It has borne its historical name since 1820 – it was named after the “Zum Ritter” guesthouse, which was popular at the time.

Ritterstraße forms a border between the State Museum of Natural History Karlsruhe and Baden’s State Library, as well as between Friedrichsplatz and Kirchplatz St. Stephan. The close proximity of Ritterstrasse to Friedrichsplatz means that it is the perfect place to go sunbathing on a park bench, followed by a casual tour of the city. Ritterstraße combines a natural setting with an urban roadway. Taking a break in the green section of the expansive fan-shaped street will give everybody the boost of stamina they need for a shopping marathon. From shoes to perfumes and jewellery, right up to tasty baked goods, the XXL fan-shaped street has everything your heart could desire.
