KA-WLAN, the free Wi-Fi service in Karlsruhe, is available at many public places. Here, you can surf the Internet for free on your smartphone, tablet or laptop without any time restrictions or data limits.
You are not required to sign in to use KA-WLAN. Simply connect your mobile device to the “KA-WLAN” network and you can get straight online. In this case, connection is not encrypted.
With KA-sWLAN, you can also do a one-time sign-in to gain secured access to the public Wi-Fi network. This will protect your sensitive data from being accessed by third parties. KA-sWLAN is available at all locations where KA-WLAN is also available.
Additional public Wi-Fi access has also been set up in the region of Baden under the name BADEN-WLAN, which is compatible with KA-WLAN. Users of KA-sWLAN only need a single account to use the Wi-Fi in all participating cities, municipalities and institutions, and will also be automatically logged in to the partner networks MA-WLAN in Mannheim and GER-WLAN in Germersheim.
The initial partners in the project were INKA e. V., CyberForum e. V., Stadtmarketing Karlsruhe GmbH – now represented by the Wissenschaftsbüro der Stadt Karlsruhe –, TelemaxX Telekommunikation GmbH and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).
