The new strategy received a warm reception at the 17th Karlsruhe Tourism Day

Karlsruhe, April 24, 2026 – Karlsruhe has a new tourism strategy: With this new strategy for the Karlsruhe destination, the city is setting the course for its future tourism development. KTG Karlsruhe Tourismus GmbH unveiled the new strategy for the first time at the 17th Karlsruhe Tourism Day on April 23, 2026. The strategy focuses on the city’s strengths: a vibrant cultural scene, a high quality of life and stay, a strong academic community, and Karlsruhe’s unique role as a city of law. The strategy is guided by the shared vision “Vibrant Culture. Real Life. A Bright Future.”

Mayor Gabriele Luczak-Schwarz, who also serves as chair of the supervisory board of KTG Karlsruhe Tourismus GmbH, emphasized the importance of the strategy for the entire city: “The new tourism strategy is not a KTG project, but rather the result of an intensive and participatory development process. It integrates perspectives from the city’s community, politics, culture, academia, and business, and creates a solid foundation for the future development of tourism in Karlsruhe.”

A tourism strategy is developed through targeted dialogue

Changing travel habits, growing demands for sustainability, digitalization, and intense competition called for a new tourism strategy for Karlsruhe that provides direction and sets concrete goals. As early as late 2024, KTG Karlsruhe Tourismus GmbH—supported by the strategy and implementation consultancy PROJECT M—began the structured development of the strategic framework.

The strategy is the result of an intensive participatory process. Many stakeholders from politics, the hotel industry, culture, gastronomy, leisure, and urban society contributed their perspectives. The resulting collaborative process is reflected in the strategic guidelines. Pascal Rastetter, Managing Director of KTG Karlsruhe Tourismus GmbH, emphasized the collaborative approach: “For Karlsruhe, tourism is far more than just an economic factor. It fosters connections, strengthens our culture, and contributes to the city’s quality of life. With the new tourism strategy, we have a clear direction—and above all, a shared goal: to further develop Karlsruhe as a vibrant, forward-looking destination.”

Five key objectives will guide the future direction of tourism efforts in Karlsruhe: quality of life and experience, identity and image, long-term sustainability, value creation, and appreciation. This clear, shared roadmap was met with widespread approval by participants at the Karlsruhe Tourism Day. The key objectives are backed by specific metrics, enabling targeted management of developments and the measurement of success.

Implementation of the tourism strategy as a joint effort

To further develop Karlsruhe as a forward-looking travel destination, the tourism strategy provides a common framework for future collaboration among stakeholders in the destination.

Jana Kolodzie, Head of Tourism Development at KTG, explains: “What began with the joint development of the tourism strategy must now be brought to life. The strategy can only have an impact if many stakeholders work together to further develop and implement it. Every idea, every collaboration, and every commitment contributes to further developing Karlsruhe as a vibrant and forward-looking destination.”
