On August 3, 18 cultural institutions in Karlsruhe invite you to a unique night full of discoveries and experiences from 6 p.m. to midnight. For the 25th Karlsruhe Museum Night KAMUNA, the museums have put together over 240 unforgettable program items in line with the motto "25 years. "The 25th anniversary of the Karlsruhe Museum Night is a milestone for the cultural scene in our city," says Stephan Theysohn, Culture Theme Manager at KTG Karlsruhe Tourismus GmbH, which is responsible for the overall coordination of KAMUNA. "Karlsruhe's culture is multifaceted, colorful and thrives on the enthusiasm of its protagonists. We are proud that KAMUNA has been bringing people together to celebrate our rich cultural diversity for a quarter of a century. To mark our anniversary, we have come up with a special thank you: all 25-year-olds receive free admission!"
The current topic of artificial intelligence: at an AI workshop at the ZKM | Center for Art and Media, participants at KAMUNA can create their own design and print it on textiles they bring with them. One of the three neighbors in the Hallenbau is the Hochschule für Gestaltung, which is presenting the human-robot performance "Robotic Soundscape" with machine art pioneer and media artist Kal Spelletich exclusively for KAMUNA.
The Staatliche Kunsthalle, which is currently closed for renovation, has also found a home in the rooms of the Hallenbau and is showing selected works there in the "Kunsthalle@ZKM" exhibition - with various special guided tours during KAMUNA. If you need a short breather, you can take one at the Städtische Galerie. In addition to a museum rally, delicious cocktails from Santo's Cocktailbar and sound art from kitchen.tunes await you there.
Not only KAMUNA, but also the Pfinzgaumuseum is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2024! It opened its doors for the first time on April 13, 1924. Support from the public was huge right from the start. This is demonstrated by the many donations, of which a hundred selected items can be seen in the "Durlach x 100" exhibition, including an electric drying hood from the 1950s and a bridal veil from 1910. To mark KAMUNA, there will be several short guided tours through the special exhibition as well as a lantern tour through the historic attic of the Karlsburg followed by a "nightcap".
The history of the Prinz-Max-Palais is particularly varied: retirement home of a millionaire, residence of the last heir to the throne of Baden, seat of the Federal Constitutional Court and now home to the City Museum and Literature Museum. The special exhibition "Prinz-Max-Palais. A house tells story(s)" in the city museum sheds light on the house's varied past. In addition to special guided tours, the KAMUNA also features the quiz "What am I? Strange things from the city's history", in which the function of various objects from the City Museum and Pfinzgaumuseum depots must be guessed - including a prize draw.
This year, the Literature Museum is celebrating 100 years of the Karlsruhe Literary Society, one of the largest literary associations in Central Europe. For KAMUNA, the museum is dedicating itself to the 125th birthday of the famous writer Erich Kästner. Martin Wacker and theater actress Susanne Buchenberger will stage an imaginary encounter between Kästner and the poet Mascha Kaléko.
This year's guest institutions at KAMUNA are Treffpunkt Schienennahverkehr and the RetroGames e.V. association. Treffpunkt Schienennahverkehr offers entertaining guided tours of the historic streetcars operated by the Karlsruhe transport company and the Albtal-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft. You can immerse yourself in the past and experience the history of Karlsruhe's local transport system up close. Among other things, you can marvel at one of the first Karlsruhe tramcars from 1899.
The RetroGames e.V. association has the oldest public exhibition of video game machines in Germany. Touching and trying out are expressly permitted! During KAMUNA, there will be a reading by author Prof. Dr. Stefan Piasecki from his book "IMAGINE THAT! The story of the African-American gaming pioneer Ed Smith". It tells the story of Ed Smith, one of only two known game developers of African-American origin from the very first generation of digital entertainment. Vegan steakweck and cocktails will be available for refreshments.
Many other highlights of KAMUNA, such as the extensive children's program or the numerous special tours, can be found on the website www.kamuna.de. The program items can be individually added to a watch list there. This means that everyone can create their own personal KAMUNA guide and never lose track of what's on. It is also possible to select barrier-free and inclusive offers such as guided tours for people with visual impairments. The institutions have coordinated in advance to avoid overlaps.
To ensure that visitors can easily reach all the highlights of KAMUNA, two shuttle bus lines have been set up again this year in cooperation with the VBK, which are included in the KAMUNA ticket. Both meet at the Natural History Museum. Line 1 runs every 10 minutes to the Generallandesarchiv, Hallenbau and RetroGames e.V. Line 2 runs every 30 minutes to the Verkehrsmuseum, Treffpunkt Schienennahverkehr and Pfinzgaumuseum in Durlach.
