"Due to the high demand last year, we have decided to offer the trip on the red double-decker bus and the hometown tour beyond October," says KTG Managing Director Pascal Rastetter. "So there is still the opportunity for discovery tours during the fall vacations. The bus runs until November 3 and you can even experience the "Hometown Karlsruhe" tours until November 17. And speaking of vacations: The last Children's City Tour 2024 takes place on October 30."
Red double-decker bus meets red fall foliage
The City Tour offers a ride along colorful trees and breathtaking views of autumnal Karlsruhe. The red double-decker bus takes you to important Karlsruhe sights such as the ZKM | Center for Art and Media, the castle and the Turmberg. The view from the Turmberg is highly recommended, especially in the golden season when everything shines in the most beautiful colors. The bus even takes a short break for this!
The audio guide in several languages provides interesting and entertaining facts about the fan-shaped city. The comedy channel with the two well-known radio presenters Zeus and Wirbitzky is particularly funny. You can hop on or off at any of the stops and explore the city on your own. How about a detour to the picturesque old town of Durlach, for example? Or a climb up the castle tower with a great panoramic view of Karlsruhe?
The HopOn/HopOff bus runs on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays until November 3. There is also a special travel day on October 3 (German Unity Day).
Hometown also worth a visit in fall
Tulip bulbs are now on sale everywhere again. But why is the early bloomer the symbolic flower of Karlsruhe? And how did the baroque planned city become Germany's first and so far only UNESCO City of Media Arts? Participants can find out this and much more on the guided tour "Hometown Karlsruhe" until November 17.
From the starting point at the tourist information office on Marktplatz, the tour takes you to the Botanical Gardens, the Federal Constitutional Court, the Ständehaus and back again. The city guides provide not only guests but also locals with interesting and amusing information about the fan-shaped city - insider tips included.
The tour always takes place on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Vacation program with the children's city tour
On October 30, the little ones go on an exciting journey of discovery through Karlsruhe on the children's city tour and learn about the history of the city in a playful way. The funny short stories and exciting quiz questions are also interesting for the accompanying adults.
The 2-hour tour starts at 10 a.m. at the town hall on the market square, where there are insights into the center of power - including a view from the balcony. The tour then continues across the Platz der Grundrechte to the Botanical Gardens and Palace Gardens. Here the children learn all kinds of things about the sometimes exotic plants. And perhaps they will even spot a squirrel or two in search of nuts and the like.
