The Museum on Marktplatz

The Baden State Museum has been in charge of the Museum on Marktplatz since 1993. The museum is located right at the heart of Karlsruhe in the former publishing house of Badischen Neuesten Nachrichten (Baden News). The Museum hosts a unique collection of applied art from the turn of the century.

Art collections from the 20th century are the focus of Karlsruhe’s Museum on Marktplatz . The city has made huge contributions to modern architecture and applied art, from art nouveau to today’s modern building design.

With its permanent exhibition in the first floor and temporary exhibitions on the ground level, the Museum on Marktplatz builds a bridge to the historic collections at Karlsruhe palace. Featuring works from the 1919 Bauhaus movement, the collection gives a splendid overview of developments in design, from functionalism to current styles.
