Four institutions under one roof - the Kulturquartier in Karlsruhe

From old masters and contemporary sculpture to postmodern media installations and up-and-coming artists: you can experience art from a wide range of eras and styles in the Karlsruhe Hallenbau . In a unique merger, the ZKM and the Städtische Galerie first moved into the building of the old munitions factory, followed shortly afterwards by the Hochschule für Gestaltung. A fourth institution, the Staatliche Kunsthalle, is currently a guest.

Welcome to Hallenbau on Open House Day, the doors of the cultural quarter will be open to anyone interested! On this day, the ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe, the Staatliche Kunsthalle Karlsruhe, the Städtische Galerie Karlsruhe, and the University of Arts and Design invite you to take a look behind the scenes. 

You can expect a lively and varied program with exhibitions, guided tours, workshops, and hands-on activities—a day full of art, design, media, and encounters in the heart of Karlsruhe. Admission is free.

The institutions at Hallenbau Karlsruhe

Four cultural institutions are housed in the Hallenbau Karlsruhe. The Staatliche Kunsthalle displays parts of its collection in the exhibition rooms of the ZKM. The ZKM | Center for Art and Media is known for its innovative media art. The Hochschule für Gestaltung (HfG ) shows creative design exhibitions, while the Städtische Galerie presents contemporary art with a focus on regional artists.

The Hallenbau in Karlsruhe, originally built as an ammunition factory, was converted into a cultural center in the 1990s.
