From May 2, 2023 until October 31, 2023, a total of 20 new planters, ten parasols and 30 high-quality chairs were installed on Karlsruhe's market square to give the square a more pleasant atmosphere.

The aim of the measure was to make the market square greener and more inviting, especially in the summer months, and to create a new space that can be used by people in a variety of ways. In future, the market square should be perceived by residents, tourists and working people alike as a meeting place and a place of well-being.

User survey on the new furnishings

With the new furniture, the city responded to the wishes expressed by the public in previous surveys for more seating on the market square. In order to find out how the new furniture was received by the population, the Karlsruhe-based company COBUS Marktforschung GmbH surveyed local users in the summer of 2023. 

In addition to the survey, the utilization of the available seating was also recorded throughout the day.

The mobile furniture is a project as part of the City Transformation Process of the City of Karlsruhe.
