Instead of walking or cycling through the center of Karlsruhe, the residents of Karlsruhe have been able to explore and experience the fan-shaped city with e-scooters since summer 2019. Two providers started in Karlsruhe:

"VOI"

The city of Karlsruhe has been the eleventh station in Germany for the Swedish e-scooter sharing service "VOI" since September 2019. In Europe, the company is already present in 38 other cities and 11 countries.
The scooter rental service is initially only available in downtown Karlsruhe.

And this is how it works:

In order to be able to use the "VOI" e-scooters, the "VOI app" (Apple & Google Play Store) must first be installed on the smartphone. There is a starting fee of one euro plus 15 cents per minute per ride with an e-scooter. Users are asked to use cycle lanes. E-scooters may not be taken on KVV buses or trains.

For more information, see the Homepage of the city of Karlsruhe, as well as on the Homepage of the provider „VOI“.

"TIER"

As the 25th city in Germany, the fan-shaped city also got the e-scooters from the provider "TIER". Around 200 black and green electronic scooters have been available for hire in the city since December 2019.
The e-scooters from "TIER" can be found at central traffic junctions and lively areas of the fan-shaped city of Karlsruhe.

And this is how it works:

In order to be able to use the "TIER" e-scooters, the "Tier app" (Apple & Google Play Store) must first be downloaded to the smartphone. The scooter can then be scanned and started with a QR code on the handlebars.

One euro activation fee and running costs of 15 cents per minute are due for each trip with an e-scooter from "TIER". Payment can be made with PayPal or credit card.
After the ride, the e-scooter can be parked flexibly at suitable locations in Karlsruhe. Those who opt for the e-scooters are covered by Axa liability insurance.
Parking scooters is currently prohibited in the castle gardens and in the northern part of the city centre. The areas around the University of Applied Sciences and large parts of the KIT are also affected. There is another no-parking zone at the Karlsruhe Zoo.

For more information, see the Homepage of the city of Karlsruhe, as well as on the Homepage of the provider „TIER“.
