Museums and galleries

Baden State Museum:

• The Baden State Museum reopened its doors as of Tuesday, 12 May.
• The ‘Ancient Cultures’ and ‘Middle Ages’ sections on the ground floor and ‘Renaissance’ on the first floor are open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• The other collections and the special ‘HumANimal’ exhibition remain closed at this stage.
• The museum shop is open.
• Important information and restrictions:
• No more than 70 visitors can be admitted to the museum at any time.
• A sanitiser station has been set up in the entrance area.
• Masks must be worn at all times.
• For the first few weeks, admission will be free of charge.
• The ‘Museum at the Market Square’ and the ‘Museum in the Majolika’ will remain closed for now.

Karlsruhe State Museum of Natural History:

• As of Tuesday, 12 May, the exhibition areas in the west wing are now open to visitors.
• The ‘Planet 3.0 – Climate.Life.Future’ exhibition has been extended until 2 August 2020. There is a reduced admission price to include the permanent exhibition (€5 for adults, €10 for a family ticket).
• The ‘Climate and habitats’ exhibition, vivarium, ‘Form and function – Inspired by nature’ exhibition, large aquarium including the coral reef tank and the museum shop are also open.
• Important information and restrictions:
• Visitor numbers are restricted to 50.
• Groups must consist of no more than two individuals or a family.
• Face coverings must be worn (with the exception of children under 6 years).
• Social distancing of at least 1.5 metres must be maintained.

ZKM | Center for Art and Media:

• The ZKM partially reopened its doors on Wednesday, 13 May.
• The ‘Writing the History of the Future’ exhibition is now accessible again.
• Important information and restrictions:
• Groups of up to two individuals or family groups only.
• The exhibition can accommodate a maximum of 200 people.
• For the time being, all workshops, guided tours, exhibition openings and events will be held exclusively on a virtual basis.
• Social distancing of at least 1.5 metres must be maintained.
• Visitors over the age of 6 years must wear masks at all times.

Staatliche Kunsthalle Karlsruhe:

• The Staatliche Kunsthalle (State Art Gallery) will reopen on Friday, 29 May.

Municipal Gallery:

• The Municipal Gallery is already open again.
• The ground floor features a large-scale special exhibition entitled ‘(In)finite resources? Artistic perspectives since 1980’.
• Further presentations on the upper floors have also been open to visitors since Saturday, May 9.
• Important information and restrictions:
• Events, guided tours, the children’s workshop on Sundays and the museum afternoons for parents and children cannot currently be held because of the infection risk.
• No more than 50 people are allowed in the exhibition rooms at any time.
• Face coverings must be worn.

Museum of Literature:

• The Museum of Literature will reopen its permanent exhibition on Sunday, 17 May.
• Important information and restrictions:
• Masks must be worn at all times.
• General social distancing rules apply.
• The Museum of Literature asks that the safety and hygiene guidelines provided are adhered to.
• Visitor numbers are restricted to a maximum of 6 people.
• Audio guides and the audio library are not currently available.

Baden Art Association:

• The Baden Art Association is back open as of Tuesday, 12 May.
• Important information and restrictions:
• No more than 35 visitors can be admitted to the exhibition at any time.
• Face coverings must be worn (with the exception of children under 6 years).
• Sanitiser station in the foyer.
• Social distancing of at least 1.5 metres among visitors and employees.
• All workshops, guided tours and events have been cancelled for the time being.

Galerie Knecht und Burster:

• Galerie Knecht und Burster has already reopened its doors:
• Wed.–Fri. 2–6 p.m., Sat. 12–3 p.m. and by appointment
• Important information and restrictions:
• Normal hygiene and distancing rules (masks mandatory and minimum 1.5 m distancing)

BBK Gallery:

• The artists’ house gallery has already reopened its doors:
• Thursdays and Fridays 5–7 p.m.
• Closed at the weekends and on public holidays
• The ‘Druckkunst heute – Treffpunkt Grafik’ exhibition on printing and graphic art has been extended to the end of May.
• The last day of the exhibition will be on Friday, 29 May.
• Important information and restrictions:
• All workshop courses have been cancelled until further notice.
• Masks must be worn at all times.
• A maximum of 6 people can be admitted into the lower gallery area, with numbers restricted to 4 or 3 people respectively in the upper rooms.
• There are signs pointing out the rules on social distancing.

Theatre

Baden State Theatre

• The Baden State Theatre offers a special programme "Sonderfahrplan" till 25. July

• The Sankorn offers the audience "Sandkorn on tour"

Libraries and archives

City Library:

• All nine departments of the Karlsruhe City Library have already reopened.
• Important information and restrictions:
• The following services are available: lending, returning, collecting reserved items and library card issue and renewal.
• Restrictions: The reading café is closed and there are no newspapers, PC workstations or study spaces available. The photocopiers and scanners may not be used. There are restrictions on the numbers of people who can use the library at any one time, but these numbers differ across the different libraries. Queues are to be expected. Visitors are asked not to stay too long. Children aged 10 and under may only enter the library if accompanied by an adult.

• The toilets are closed.

Baden State Library:

• The Baden State Library is already open again.
• Restricted services available.
• No more than five people at a time.
• Face coverings must be worn.
• A distance of at least two metres must be maintained to other visitors.
• The ‘Egon Eiermann DIGITAL’ exhibition reopened on Monday, May 11.
• Visitors are asked to telephone in advance for an appointment on 0721 175 2221.
• Visitors with appointments can access the exhibition via the main entrance and the foyer.
• A period of one hour is reserved for each visit to the exhibition room.

City Archive:

• The City Archive and reading room has already reopened.
• Important information and restrictions:
• Masks must be worn at all times.
• By prior appointment only.

General State Archives:

• The General State Archives have already reopened.
• The reading rooms, the finding aids rooms and the archive advisory service are open.
• Important information and restrictions:
• Visits by prior appointment only.
• Masks must be worn at all times.
• Sanitiser stations in the foyer and reading room.
