RunwayRugs Studio Karlsruhe - create your own stylish rugs now

Opening on August 30, 2025 on the second floor of Karlsruhe's Kaiserpassage, in store no. 14, owner Sami Letifi is bringing a whole new DIY concept to Karlsruhe with RunwayRugs: the craft of tufting - making and designing rugs yourself.

The owner of RunwayRugs, Sami Latifi, discovered his passion for knotting unique rug designs three years ago. "I watched a lot of videos back then and found creating rugs with the so-called 'tufting guns' super exciting. Then I started creating my own designs and selling them from home," he explains. With the tufting method, the yarn is threaded through a gun and then shot into the fabric. "Of course, this is much quicker than weaving a rug by hand," reports Sami. At some point, the desire to open his own tufting studio grew in him. "The premises here in the Kaiserpassage are perfect for me," he says.

On August 30, 2025, Sami officially opened the doors of RunwayRugs, bringing a completely new DIY experience to Karlsruhe's city center. And the concept has already been met with great enthusiasm! In workshopswhich always take place on Saturdays, Karlsruhe residents can now immerse themselves in the exciting world of tufting.

Tufting workshop fun for all Karlsruhe residents

"I give the course participants everything they need to be able to go home with a finished work of art at the end," explains Sami. You don't need any previous knowledge. The owner differentiates between

• Starter Rug - a rug in 40x40 cm format
• Classic Rug - a rug in 60x60 cm format
• and Statement Rug - a rug in 90x90cm format

Prices range from €89 for the Starter Rug to €139 for the Classic and €159 for the Statement Rug. The desired motif is sent to Sami in advance, which he then prepares on the canvas. Alternatively, Sami will also advise on motifs on the day of the workshop and help with the selection. "Clear logos and icons, bold block lettering or simple graphic shapes are of course best suited," says Sami. You can choose from a total of 20 wool colors and then you're ready to go! "Once everyone in the course has learned how the tufting gun works, they can try it out first - before starting on their own work," he adds. Once you get the hang of it, the thread flies across the canvas almost by itself and fun is guaranteed. "You need to allow around three to four hours for a small rug," explains the owner. "We also have space for up to eight people," he adds. Perfect for a small team event, stag party or for anyone who simply wants to let off steam creatively and create a unique work of art that is definitely not for sale.
