"Odessa" is the new restaurant in Karlsruhe city center that delights with authentic Ukrainian cuisine. Owner Anna Terentieva has lived in Germany for over 20 years and has always had a great passion for cooking and the dishes from her native Odessa.

And it is precisely this love and culinary connection to her home country that the owner has been able to bring closer to the people of Karlsruhe with her own restaurant since January 25, 2024. "It's always been a big dream of mine to have my own restaurant," says Anna. "When we found these premises here, this dream quickly became a reality," she adds. On two floors, with its own terrace, she now brings the varied and special cuisine of Ukraine to Kaiserpassage 2-4.

Varied and authentic Ukrainian cuisine in the heart of Karlsruhe - the Odessa restaurant

Anna designed the restaurant (which used to be an ice cream parlor) in Karlsruhe's Kaiserpassage entirely herself and according to her own wishes. "A cozy atmosphere with elegant elements was very important to me," is how she describes the interior design of Odessa. The restaurant features many golden details, velvet-covered seating, indirect lighting and pleasant background music.

Above all, however, it is the menu that shows how varied Ukrainian cuisine is:

"We cook everything ourselves and all of my staff are also from Ukraine, so it's really authentic home cooking that we have on the menu," says Anna. And it is precisely this menu that is unique in Karlsruhe. "It's a small niche, because there's no Ukrainian cuisine in Karlsruhe, we're the only ones here," says Anna happily. The menu includes a number of culinary specialties that are synonymous with Ukrainian cuisine:

  • Golubzi - cabbage rolls
  • Holodez - Chicken aspic
  • Baked peppers
  • Borscht (beet soup with beef)
  • Solyanka (soup with different sausage variations)
  • Schuba salad (with herring, beet, potatoes and gherkin)
  • Olivier salad (chicken breast, potatoes, mayo, gherkins and peas)

Dumplings and desserts as a culinary highlight of the Odessa menu

The stuffed dumplings pelmeni, vareniki and chebureki are particularly popular. "We make the dough ourselves, the meat comes from a butcher's shop. Of course, we fill and shape the dumplings ourselves," Anna reveals. "At first I was in the kitchen here myself, but then I found Daniil, who also comes from Ukraine, and he's a really great chef for my restaurant," she explains. Traditional Ukrainian desserts such as "Napoleon" a cake with sweet butter cream and nuts, "Medovik" a delicious honey cake or sweet pancakes can also be found on the menu.

If you want to get to know authentic Ukrainian cuisine, you should visit Anna's restaurant and let her team spoil you with culinary delights.
