In Bonnie Berendes' pottery workshop, Karlsruhe residents can let off steam creatively and get plenty of insights into the popular craft of pottery from the owner - right in the heart of the city.

Just pause for a moment, feel the clay material in your hands, watch how it takes on different shapes in your fingers and finally proudly admire your own handmade cup, plate or new bowl - with Bonnie Berendes from Keramik Dauerschön, pottery is a relaxing break from hectic everyday life.

With your own hands, you can create a new favorite piece that is so durable that it will last for generations.
Bonnie Berendes, owner of Keramik Dauerschön

She learned to make pottery at an early age in her mother's workshop and has always stuck with it. "Because I enjoyed it so much, I decided at some point to make the workshop and my workshops my full-time job," she says. Initially in Knielingen, but since the beginning of February 2024, Keramik Dauerschön has found its new address right in the heart of the city center, at Herrenstraße 29.

"I offer suitable courses for beginners who have never made pottery before as well as experienced pottery enthusiasts," says Bonnie. A distinction is made between turning courses and hand-building. "For hand-building, there are ready-made templates that you can use as a guide. They can be used to create plates, cups or bowls. This is a great way to get to know pottery, especially for beginners," explains Bonnie. The potter's wheel, on the other hand, requires a little more dexterity, but after a few attempts and with Bonnie's tips, the first small vessels can be created here too.

"I always start with a theoretical introduction and only then do we get down to the actual pottery. If you like, you can then glaze it yourself at a second appointment or leave the glazing to me," says Bonnie. The owner also has lots of tips on choosing glazes and shows how to turn the clay objects into real ceramic works of art. "The aim at the end of the complex and rather long production process is to hold durable and beautiful ceramic pieces in your hands. That's where the name comes from: Keramik Dauerschön", explains Bonnie.

Handmade works from the Karlsruhe pottery workshop

Open, bright and above all inviting, the Dauerschön ceramics workshop at Herrenstraße 29 is the only unique pottery workshop in the city center.

Bonnie has made perfect use of the space: The rear area forms the entire workshop area with tables for hand-building and the turntables, while the entrance area provides a display area for Bonnie's own pieces:

  • Jewelry
  • Trailer
  • Lanterns
  • Cups
  • Bowls
  • Vases

"I also make a small lemon squeezer at every pottery session, which has become a tradition at some point," Bonnie reveals. Bonnie's work is not only available on site, but also in her own online store.

Visit Bonnie and take a little creative break from everyday life yourself or make someone happy with a gift voucher from Keramik Dauerschön.

If you are planning a creative JGA, a company event or a birthday, Bonnie is also the right address for you.
