Dennis Hühnl now inspires with hospitality and delicious cocktail creations in his new bar on Lidellplatz

With the pre-opening on March 9, 2024 and the official opening on March 14, 2024, Dennis Hühnl and his Bar Vagabund have now arrived in Karlsruhe's city center and have been offering the people of Karlsruhe a relaxing break from everyday life with the finest cocktails and good conversation ever since. 

After stops such as the "Spirit of St. Louis" bar in Europa Park's Bell Rock Hotel, Hamburg's Hotel Fonteney, cruise ships and the Karlsruhe bar trunk owner Dennis Hühnl has now found his port of call and brought Bar Vagabund on Lidellplatz back to life. "I've traveled a lot myself and have learned a lot and taken a lot of inspiration with me. Each of my stops was important and made me who I am today," says Hühnl. And it is precisely this philosophy that he is bringing to Karlsruhe city center with Vagabund.  

At Lidellplatz in Karlsruhe: unusual cocktail creations at the Vagabund Bar

"For me, a bar is a place to come together, to arrive," explains Hühnl. "Here you can leave everyday life behind, switch off and enjoy," he adds. And that's exactly what Karlsruhe residents have been able to do since mid-March 2024 at Markgrafenstraße 32 in the former premises of Carlos Cocktailbar. With an indoor area seating up to 50 people and a cozy outdoor area with 40 seats, located directly on Karlsruhe's beautiful Lidellplatz, you can unwind and enjoy Hühnl's sophisticated cocktail creations. Unusual variations are waiting to be tried:

  • "Dark Knight Negroni" with Dark Plantery rum, sherry, red vermouth, Tonka Campari and Amaro Montenegro
  • "Sailor Buck" with apple-infused cachaça, sherry, vanilla cordial and spicy ginger beer
  • "The Cord is the word" a creamy, fruity daiquiri twist with Plantery rum and vegan lemon curd
  • "Son of a Peacher Man" - non-alcoholic, with lime, pomegranate, vegan egg white and a sip of peach soda

Sustainability, vegan products and regional suppliers

"I pay attention to sustainability and try to produce as little waste as possible, which is why I buy in canisters rather than bottles, for example," says Hühnl. The bar also uses purely vegan products and avoids liqueurs with honey or uses a substitute product for egg whites. "These products have a much longer shelf life, so we hardly have to throw anything away here either," explains the owner.

"We also work very closely with regional suppliers to keep travel distances short," says Hühnl. Wines and crémant from the Palatinate and fruit brandies from the region around Karlsruhe find their way into the Vagabund Bar.

Sour Hour at the Vagabund Bar - cocktails at a low price in Karlsruhe

Every Tuesday to Thursday from 18:00 to 20:00, it's Sour Hour at Vagabund! For €6.50 for the alcoholic and €4.50 for the non-alcoholic version, you can try the special menu of sour cocktails at Vagabund on Lidellplatz. Whether with bourbon, apple brandy or tequila - there are numerous delicious variations to ring in the Karlsruhe evening with friends, family or colleagues.
