At the southernmost tip of Waldstraße, at number 66, the former ballet store, the new second-hand store delights shoppers with vintage fashion, accessories and selected pieces of furniture in a cozy living room atmosphere - Karlsruhe residents can definitely feel at home shopping second-hand here. If you also want to give clothes and furniture a second life and thus contribute to sustainable shopping in Karlsruhe, kontr:AST is also the right place for you. The brainchild of artist Patrick Markaj, kontr:AST aims to establish a store for well-preserved and selected vintage fashion, as well as providing a platform for young artists to exhibit their work.

I've had a passion for clothes ever since I was little and second-hand has been an integral part of my shopping routine for many years.

Giving furniture and vintage fashion a second life in Karlsruhe

Anyone looking for very special fashion and selected pieces of furniture will definitely find what they are looking for here. In addition to branded items, kontr:AST also hides real collector's items.

"Everything here was selected and put together by our manager Enya. We took care of the furnishings and the presentation of the clothes, shoes and accessories. So the whole store was created individually and lovingly by hand," reports employee Vianne Thomas. Like, for example, the idea of displaying the handmade jewelry at kontr:AST in an old window frame in an original way. The kontr:AST second-hand store's range also includes

  • Shoes
  • Jackets
  • Sweater
  • Pants
  • and bags

It's worth popping in regularly, as new clothes are always being restocked and the range changes every week! "We also have lots of unisex pieces that are very popular with both men and women," explains Vianne. "Everything, apart from the jewelry and the crocheted bags, are items of clothing or furniture that get a second chance with us," she adds. Customers can also discover brands such as Levi's, Hugo Boss, Carhartt and Dsquared among the items at kontr:AST.

Anyone who still has well-preserved vintage fashion in their closet is welcome to donate it to kontr:AST in order to give the items of clothing a second life and bring joy to other people.

Art by Marvin Meyer and Patrick Markaj at Kontr:AST in Waldstraße

In addition to stylish fashion and unusual accessories, kontr:AST is also a meeting place for art fans. This is because the two artists Marvin Meyer and Patrick Markaj have joined forces in this store. "Here, Karlsruhe residents can view some of the works that have emerged from the collaboration between Marvin and Patrick. We also offer other young artists the opportunity to present themselves here and exhibit their work," explains Vianne. There is plenty of space for this in the former ballet store in the southern Waldstraße - thanks to the very high ceilings, the second-hand store offers the perfect presentation area.
