Plant-based cuisine in downtown Karlsruhe
From burgers and pasta to Maultaschen, ice cream, and cake—Karlsruhe's city center offers a wide selection of vegan and vegetarian cafés and restaurants.
The first purely plant-based restaurant and vegan cheese counter in Karlsruhe
Karlsruhe has long been known for its diverse gastronomic scene —whether you are completely vegan, enjoy vegetarian food, or are a meat lover who would like to try an alternative, you can feast to your heart's content on plant-based cuisine in the city center.
Since 2015, and thus for more than ten years, many vegan hearts in Karlsruhe have been beating for the restaurant "My heart beats vegan." As the city's first purely plant-based restaurant, My heart beats vegan has made a name for itself that is known far beyond the city limits. Whether classic, reinterpreted, or creative, since 2015, the restaurant at Kriegsstraße 94 has been a very popular address for pasta, salads, and desserts—all vegan, of course. However, the highlight of the restaurant is and remains the burgers: the New York Classic with falafel patty, the London Calling with grilled soy steak, or the Thai Sweet Chili with crispy soy patty—enclosed in a freshly baked spelt Kraichgau corn roll and topped with the most delicious ingredients, the vegan burgers are a real treat.
From breakfast to delicious lunch dishes and after-work snacks, the well-known Café Drei&Zwanzig run by sisters Naëmi and Salome Klawitter also offers a wide selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes:
- Sandwiches
- Cake
- Soups
- Stullen
- Salads
The highlight of the café? It's the vegan cheese counter, which is unique in Karlsruhe: "Shortly after we discovered the variety of plant-based delicatessen cheeses, we knew immediately that we definitely wanted to offer a vegan cheese counter in our café," says Naëmi.
Falafel, vegan ice cream, and vegan cakes in Karlsruhe
If you want to enjoy the finest falafels (chickpea-based patties), you should visit Namik's Kitchen on Bürgerstraße in Karlsruhe or La Rose on Akademiestraße . With their Arabic and Syrian dishes, these two restaurants not only appeal to lovers of vegan and vegetarian cuisine, but are also popular with many Karlsruhe residents.
And here's a sweet tip for all you dessert lovers out there: At Claus near the market square in downtown Karlsruhe, delicious vegan ice cream flavors made with soy, coconut, rice, or oat milk await you—it's worth stopping by!
Vegan ice cream specialties from our in-house production facility are also available to Karlsruhe residents at Verde at Kaiserstrasse 101. Since September 2021, guests have been able to embark on a culinary journey into plant-based cuisine and sample Verde's exciting dishes, from breakfast to lunch, dinner, ice cream, and cake. These range from summer truffle pasta, roasted cauliflower cream soup, and jackfruit pea protein fillet to exotic Asian bowls, tarte flambée, and open-faced sandwiches. Is your mouth watering? Then head on over!
We hope you enjoy trying out vegetarian and vegan cuisine in Karlsruhe!
