The new café in the Badische Landesbibliothek in Karlsruhe
Since December 1, 2023, the doors of the café in the Badische Landesbibliothek in Karlsruhe city center have finally been open again!
A cup of coffee in the morning, a delicious lunch or ending the day with something tasty - the café on the first floor of the Badische Landesbibliothek, at Erbprinzenstraße 15, offers a cozy retreat from everyday life and invites you to browse, chat and exchange ideas.
A sustainable concept, a lot of love for gastronomy and a large portion of hospitality - owner Susanne Metzger is no stranger to the Karlsruhe gastronomy scene and has already inspired the fan-shaped city with the kiosk on Ludwigsplatz and the kiosk in the baths in Rappenwörth. Now she has opened the café in the Baden State Library from its slumber and created a new meeting place to relax and enjoy.
A café for all Karlsruhe residents
"Everyone is welcome here and we are pleased to have a mixed audience who can meet and exchange ideas," says owner Susanne Metzger. "My café is open to everyone, not just visitors to the Badische Landesbibliothek. Anyone can also browse through the exhibitions exhibitions on the first floor, which are directly adjacent to the café," she adds.
The café focuses on sustainability, regionality and fair prices at the same time. The bread and rolls come from the Karlsruhe bakery Lörzthe majority of the drinks from Fächerbräu and ingredients for their dishes from Füllhorn BioMarktwhich is also located in Erbprinzenstraße.

The menu by Susanne Metzger leaves nothing to be desired - whether for a classic breakfast, a healthy lunch or a sweet dessert in the afternoon:

and much more. The all-day breakfast menu and the changing lunch menu are particularly popular with guests. "I like to try things out and cook what I like myself," explains the owner. The café offers both hearty meat options and vegetarian dishes.
A relaxed atmosphere and the owner's good mood ensure that you can really feel at home here. Susanne Metzger already has lots of ideas for the spring and the future of the café: "I'm going to offer street sales through the window onto Erbprinzenstraße, and we also have outdoor seating that invites you to enjoy our food in the fresh air," she enthuses.
Tip: The owner is also planning special events and offers in the evening hours: "We will have a red hour where we offer delicious drinks that are red in color. These include Aperol Spritz or Campari Orange, for example."
