The motto of the children's city tour is: Big city for little people.

The meeting point is at 10 a.m. in front of the town hall on the market square. Once all participants, young and old, have gathered, all children receive a gift at the start: a small bag to paint with a few little surprises.

Karlsruhe's town hall is going places

The tour starts with the city tour: in the town hall, the participants learn about the founding of the fan-shaped city and the children are directly involved by asking questions. The older participants are asked how old Karlsruhe is and it's the little ones' turn when the tour guide pulls out a fan and asks what it's all about. With the help of the fan, which the tour guide then holds next to the large city map of the town hall, everyone easily recognizes the fan-shaped floor plan.

This is immediately followed by another highlight for the children: an exclusive visit to the balcony of the town hall with a view of the market square from above. The little ones rush straight to the railings of the balcony and the adults all look at the square with interest. Meanwhile, the tour guide tells them about the market square and its special features.

Home of the bicycle

After visiting the balcony, we return to the first floor of the town hall. There is Baron Karl Friedrich von Drais' wheel. The little ones marvel in fascination at the vehicle. The participants are quite incredulous when they hear that the "father of the bicycle" was initially laughed at for his invention.

Just a few steps further on is a three-wheeled model that reminds the children directly of a carriage. And indeed, the world's first car by inventor Carl Benz was based on the structure of a carriage.

Off into the countryside

We slowly leave the town hall and cross the Square of Fundamental Rightswe pass the Federal Constitutional Court to the Botanical Garden.

The botanical garden is not only a delight for children, it is also an interesting attraction for parents and grandparents. Afterwards, things get downright mysterious: the history of the former margrave's Chinese garden and the place that served as the entrance to his secret tunnel are explored. And surrounded by greenery, you almost forget that you are still in the city center.

Background knowledge about Karlsruhe Palace Park

Finally, we head to the castle park, to the owl grove. As soon as the first child discovers the owls of the Majolika manufactory, the little ones run off and track down the owl figures. Together we then continue to the castle garden lake and at the end our tour guide has a little quiz ready. Once again, the questions are divided into easy ones for the younger participants and trickier ones for the older ones. Together, the children manage to answer all the questions. And some of the children seem downright proud when they realize that the older ones are really amazed at what they have learned.

The children's city tour takes place every year on several dates during the vacations. Register in good time and enjoy an exciting tour with your kids.
