Leave everyday life behind and immerse yourself in the wonderful world of pottery and ceramic painting with Richarda Lorenz and her team - there are no limits to your imagination at Happy Pottery at Amalienstraße 45 in Karlsruhe. The new studio now delights the fan-shaped city with two floors, even more space and a new, open pottery workshop.

Step by step to your own ceramic happiness in Karlsruhe

Opened on October 13, 2020 at Amalienstraße 67, Atelier Happy Pottery is no longer an insider tip, but rather a popular address that is a must-visit in Karlsruhe. Owner Richarda Lorenz and her team have managed to create a very special place for creativity in Karlsruhe. After around five years at Amalienstraße 67, Happy Pottery celebrated its grand opening at its new location at Amalienstraße 45 in September 2025. "These premises here have always fascinated me. They are bright, the gallery is perfect for our range and we have a lot more space," enthuses the owner. As in Happy Pottery's previous location, the lovingly designed stations guide visitors through the various stages of ceramic painting. The first station involves selecting the raw ceramics:

  • Cups
  • Plate
  • Bowls
  • Dog bowls
  • Decorative elements
  • Beer mugs
  • Tableware

and many other ceramics that are waiting to be painted. At Happy Pottery, each ceramic piece has a transparent price that includes both the colors and the firing.

This is followed by the color selection at station 2. "Our colors are of course ideally matched to the ceramic, completely harmless and dishwasher-safe," explains Richarda Lorenz. The owner gives valuable tips on effects and color combinations. The next station provides information on the various painting techniques. From the spraying technique with toothbrushes and the scratching technique to bubbling and stamping, there are numerous ways to let off steam creatively on the ceramic and realize your motif ideas: be it your own name, the logo of your favourite football club or the footprints of your newborn baby.

After the ceramic artworks have been painted, they are glazed transparently, fired in a large kiln and can then be collected by their owners from the studio a few weeks later.

The new, free pottery workshop at Happy Pottery in Karlsruhe

"The idea of having our own pottery workshop had been around for a long time and with the new location, we were finally able to make the workshop a reality," says Lorenz. On the second floor, visitors to Happy Pottery can let off steam in their own pottery workshop. "As not everyone has the space or equipment to make pottery at home, the free pottery workshop here is a great way to get active and creative. You book a place at the potter's wheel or table and have everything you need to get started," says the owner. "In addition, the community of people interested in pottery in one place is an essential component, because people meet and help each other there," she adds.

Happy Pottery offers various courses for beginners and advanced potters, as well as different booking models for the pottery workshop: from individual lessons, to 10-person cards, to a subscription - perfect for anyone who wants to start from scratch or develop their skills.

For young and old artists, individuals, families, friends, company events or stag and hen parties - a visit to Richarda Lorenz's world of ceramics is a real experience that is fun and creates many works of art that can be kept or given as gifts.

For those who prefer to get creative at home, Happy Pottery also offers a "ceramic painting set to go" so that you can create your works of art at home, which are then fired on site in the studio.

Take a look online now and make your first or next visit to Happy Pottery in the center of Karlsruhe. Further inspiration and current insights into the studio can be found on Facebook and Instagram.
