Karl Friedrich Monument, Schlossplatz, 76133 Karlsruhe

The monument honors Grand Duke Karl Friedrich (1728-1811), who was a pioneer of his time with his long reign of 65 years and his reform achievements.

Description

Grand Duke Karl Friedrich made the first steps towards the independence of the judiciary possible, as well as the abolition of torture and serfdom. Karl Friedrich holds the document on the abolition of serfdom in Baden in his right hand at the monument.

The monument was erected by sculptor Ludwig Schwanthaler and unveiled in 1844.
