The Junge Staatstheater at the INSEL is the venue for children’s, youth, and young adult theater at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe. Located on Karlstraße, its program is aimed at an intergenerational audience and combines artistic productions with educational and participatory activities.
The program features both classic plays and contemporary productions, as well as original works that explore themes relevant to the lives of young people. Issues such as identity, community, courage, and social interaction are addressed here, alongside imaginative narrative worlds and experimental formats. The focus is on theater as a shared experience that combines entertainment, reflection, and dialogue.
Beyond traditional theater productions, the Junges Staatstheater sees itself as a place for active participation. Workshops, family programs, discussions, and school performances offer various ways to engage with theater and encourage audiences to get creative themselves. The Dramakomitee also serves as a children’s and youth advisory board where interested young people can share their perspectives and ideas.
One of the theater’s key priorities is to ensure that its programs are as accessible as possible and to foster an open, welcoming atmosphere. This creates a space where people of different generations can come together and experience theater as a vibrant place for connection, exchange, and artistic discovery.
